TREE PLANTING

My Trees

My trees arrived and I wasn't quite ready for them so I put them in a bucket to keep the roots wet. The instructions said to soak the roots for 5 to 6 hours, but I left them in there overnight. They don't look like much more than sticks at this point.

You can tell they are alive because there are a few buds on them!

This is the area where I will plant the trees, spacing them out so their roots don't crowd each other.

I started digging in a circle to make sure I gave enough room for the tree and mulch. The recommended size is a 3 foot diameter. I didn't quite get that much. The ground was really hard so I soaked it for an hour or so and tried again. It was much easier digging after watering!

My grandson Travis helped me out but he is allergic to grass, so he had to give it up. No matter, I finished the three holes and planted the trees eventually!

I bought 3 bags of mulch, each was 2 cubic feet. It turned out to just be enough to fill the holes I had dug for the trees. I could have purchased a different color, and I think if I did it again I would go with a brighter color to make sure the trees were visible when mowing around them!

This is the Red Maple. How do I know? The tag says it is! HA! The mulch didn't quite fill the hole, but the instructions said to leave a depression for water... so I think it will work out.

Picture of all three trees planted. The middle one is hard to see other than the mulch circle, I am going to get something to mark them better so they won't accidentally get mowed over! The instructions say to water them about every 10 days or so, but it has rained today so I will mark my calendar to check on that every 10 days and adjust for rain.
I hope I have inspired others to plant a tree during this confinement. I would love to hear from anyone who has!
